The Singthara Drain Project

Budaun, 20 June, 2012: Founder president of Prakash Foundation Mr Narvijay Yadav has sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mr Akhilesh Yadav the disctrict magistrate Budaun complaining that the Singhthara Drain project has been left incomplete. Once again the villagers are left on the mercy of the floods during the ensuing monsoon season.

Mr Yadav said that Palai village of Badaun disctrict faces flood situation every rainy season due to the Singthara Lake. In concern to which he raised the issue through the media some 25 years ago and suggested to make a drain or canal connecting the lake and the nearby Sot river. The Sot river flows 5 kms away. The state government taking stock of the grim situation took immediate steps and the drain was ready. But as the time continued the farmers with their land alongside the canal cultivated it too or disposed mud due to which more than half of the canal got blocked causing flood for last many years.

Prakash Foundation, an NGO founded by Mr Yadav in August 2011, empowers the farmers through the tool of information and technology. Seeing the critical situation of the people due to floods, Prakash Foundation wrote a letter to the then Chief Minister demanding the cleaning of the canal.

The contarctor of the project Mr Hashmat Ali said that this all has happened due to constant efforts of Prakash Foundation only.
